Market order
An order to buy or sell immediately at the best available price.
Definition and explanation
A market order requests immediate execution at the best available prices. It maximises the chance of a fill but offers no price certainty, especially in thin or volatile markets where multiple price levels may be consumed. Execution quality depends on depth and available liquidity at the time of the order.
Example
A market buy in a liquid pair typically executes close to the best ask, while in a thin market it may fill across several higher levels.
