Slippage
The difference between an expected and actual execution price.
Definition and explanation
Slippage describes the gap between a price a trader expected and the price actually achieved. It is larger when order size is large relative to available depth, when spreads are wide, or when markets move quickly. Slippage is a real cost that calculators cannot know in advance.
Example
A large market order may push the average fill price away from the displayed best price as deeper levels are consumed.
