Trading volume
The amount of an asset traded during a period.
Definition and explanation
Trading volume measures how much of an asset or contract changed hands over a specified period, using the venue's chosen units. Volume can help contextualise price moves, but exchange-reported volume may not represent the entire market and can differ across spot and derivatives venues.
Example
A breakout accompanied by higher volume may attract more attention than a move occurring on unusually low volume, but it is not proof of continuation.
