Moving average crossover
When one moving average crosses another on a chart.
Definition and explanation
A moving average crossover occurs when one moving average line crosses above or below another, often a shorter-lookback line relative to a longer one. Crossovers are a lagging, rule-based description of trend changes and can produce repeated, low-value signals in sideways markets.
Example
A shorter moving average rising above a longer one is often labelled a bullish crossover; the same signal can repeat and reverse in a range.
